[Welcome to Lynda.com]I had the fortune of finding an amazing website right off the bat and learning these huge and amazing programs became a whole hell of a lot easier because of it. Sure, you can watch YouTube videos and pick a little trick here or there, but if you don’t have the foundations in Photoshop, Lightroom, (most likely) Dreamweaver, or similar programs you’ll never really learn how to edit the way you want to. In order to learn this, many attend an expensive art school, I chose to learn at Lynda.com. Lynda.com is an amazing resource for developers, photographers, creatives, business professionals, and basically anybody who interacts with people, programs, and the creative process. The site is a collection of Tutorials, Videos, and Learning Materials aimed to help those of us not willing to drop $200k on a degree (or freshen up for those of you who may have but need quick refresher) learn how to use the tools we need to develop our craft. I was able to learn how to develop a website, learn the basics of Lightroom and Photoshop, and start to develop a workflow process that has jumped my learning curve through the roof compared to others starting from scratch. I still watch videos to learn new, advanced techniques and try to look at others’ works to develop an ongoing style, but without these basics I would have had no idea what the tools actually did and how to work on photos in a non-destructive manner.
[A quick preview of a specific tutorial content]So, your helpful tidbit for this week is go over to Lynda.com, give it a free trial, and then cough up the $25/month for the entry level membership and learn. You should always be willing to spend some money to continue your learning process and this is a cheap, amazing, and non-contractual way to get out there and learn something you may have feared learning before!
